Tapas in Barcelona

Come for the tapas, stay for the cocktails.

Barcelona was incredible. A few weeks back I spent a lovely long weekend in this city and had an amazing time exploring the streets and beaches. Obviously tapas in Spain should be good, but everywhere we went the food was just incredible. So many flavours, with the seafood putting the prawns we have in the U.K. to shame. What I really love about tapas is not having to choose, you just get a bit of everything. No food envy here, everyone can get stuck in.

Food Market in Barcelona

We also spent an amazing afternoon browsing the food market on La Rambla, with an abundance of fruit and veg stalls like you’ve never seen. We picked up lots of little things to taste from all the different sellers and was a great alternative to a sit down lunch on the Saturday. I’d really recommend picking up some of the empanadas as these were a particularly good snack for on the go. If you don’t mind looking like a tourist a couple of sticks of chocolate covered strawberries won’t go amiss either.

As I said before, you stay for the cocktails. These were so good, wherever we went. Not fussy, but just pure yumminess. Below’s a cheeky picture of me tryingΒ to enjoy one of these in peace.Β Be warned: these cocktails make you buy balloons. Parrot balloons.

Cocktails in Barcelona

Last but not least, the architecture! It’s such a beautiful and interesting city to walk around with anything Gaudi obviously standing out. Now, below is a picture of a building I really liked but I’m going to ‘fess up that I have no idea what it is, where it was or who it was by. It could be highly unimpressive architecturally speaking, but it was my favourite.

Top 3 Recommendations:

  1. Food Market on La RamblaΒ – chocolate covered strawberry central and nice looking vegetables.
  2. Open Top Bus Tour – great way to quickly see the sights and get your bearings if you’re short on time.
  3. La Sagrada Familia – you don’t want to miss this.
